A 40 year old Malibu man was arrested on April 5, 2009 at Santa Monica College Library for allegedly sexually assaulting a female SMC student.

The suspect remains in custody at the Santa Monica Jail in lieu of $750,000 bail.

The Santa Monica Police Department said today that a suspect was arrested on April 5, 2009 for the sexual assault of a college student on the SMC campus. It was a joint effort with the Santa Monica College Police.

The suspect has been identified as Chase Reynolds, 40 - years-old of Malibu. Reynolds was booked into the Santa Monica Jail and charged with sexual battery, false imprisonment, and robbery. Reynolds' bail was set at $750,000.00. He has not been arraigned.

The student, whose name was not released, was allegedly assaulted by the suspect inside the SMC library. She immediately reported the incident to the SMC police. Detectives worked with the college police officers and the victim. They were able to identify the suspect, and upon returning to the campus, he was detained by college police officers and then arrested by SMPD.

Lieutenant Darrell Lowe of Santa Monica Police said that there were no new developments in the case and that the investigation is on-going.
