Santa Monica College is pleased to be a part of the 3rd Annual Santa Monica Airport Art Walk and will showcase the talents of its Ceramics and Art Mentor students.

The Art Walk, sponsored by the City of Santa Monica's Cultural Affairs Division, is scheduled for 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, March 28 along Airport Avenue, located on the south side of the airport, between Bundy Drive and Walgrove Avenue. The event is free, as is parking.

SMC's Ceramics and Art Mentor studios are located at the college's Airport Campus, 2800 Airport Ave.

Ceramics students will demonstrate their creative process, from molding and wheeling the clay through baking and glazing the finished designs. Additionally, there will be a special sale of student ceramic and glass works.

Students in the Art Mentor program, designed for gifted students, will also demonstrate their process in a large common-area studio. The Art Mentor program provides highly talented students an opportunity to work one-on-one or in small groups with mentors.

Los Angeles County's oldest operating airstrip, the Santa Monica Airport, is embedded with a rich historical background as the birthplace of the DC3, says Hamp Simmons, supervisor of the city's Cultural Affairs Division. "But in addition to its aeronautical roots, it has also developed over time into an art and cultural incubator and is now an alluring destination occupied by a number of artistic and cultural venues."

Venues on the Art Walk, in addition to SMC, will be the Santa Monica Arts Studios complex, the Frumkin and Arena One galleries, and the Ruskin Group Theatre.

For information, go to the Cultural Affairs Division or call (310) 458-8350.
