Men's Basketball: Corsairs Defeated at Home

By: Dan Laget
Edition: 20 January 2009

It was a close, tough, and hard-fought game until the very end. The Corsairs looked pretty good during the first half and most of the second half when they tied or led the game. In the end, however, the Glendale Community College Vaqueros proved to be too much for the men of Santa Monica College.

The Vaqueros came out strong in the second half and took a 58-52 lead with 8.53 left in the game. Nevertheless, with less than five minutes left in the game, the Corsairs appear to be making a comeback. The ball is inbounded to Rodney Hudson. Hudson passes to Robert Bush. Bush passes to Ryan Avilez. Alivez passes to Hudson. Hudson passes to Bush. Bush passes back to Hudson. Hudson takes the three point shot and misses, but gets the rebound, and passes the ball to Bush. Bush goes for three points-it's good! In less than one minute, the Corsairs score three consecutive three-point shots and take the lead 62-60.

It simply was not enough though. With 1:36 left in the game the Vaqueros had regained the lead, 76-68, which proved to be insurmountable for the Corsairs. The final score was 79-73 as the Corsairs lose to Glendale.

With this loss, the men are now 0-2 in the conference and 6-13 overall.

The Men Corsairs' next game will be at the Santa Monica College Pavilion on Saturday, January 17, 2009 where they will host the Citrus College Fighting Owls.
