Global Warming's Impact on the West's Water Supplies

Author and scientist Dr. James L. Powell will give a free lecture, "Dead Pool: Lake Powell, Global Warming & the Future of Water in the West," at 11:15 a.m. Tuesday, April 7 in the Santa Monica College Humanities & Social Science Lecture Hall 165, 1900 Pico Blvd. Seating is on a first-arrival basis.

The title of the lecture comes from Powell's book, recently published by the University of California Press.

Powell is the executive director of the National Physical Science Consortium, a public-private partnership established to assist corporations, government agencies and laboratories in awarding doctoral fellowships to outstanding U.S. students. He is also the former president and director of the Los Angeles County Museum of Natural History.

The lecture is co-sponsored by the University of California Press and the SMC Associates, a private organization that funds speakers and special programs on campus.
