The Santa Monica College Music Department will be busy in May as it presents an eclectic mix of concerts and a music master class, including a special tribute to Ella Fitzgerald.

The lineup is:

* Friday, May 8 at 7:30 p.m.: SMC Applied Music Benefit Program, featuring instrumentalists, vocalists and composers. The Applied Music Program is a unique program that provides private instruction along with a rigorous curriculum to the college's most talented music students. The program will feature an eclectic mix of classical and jazz, including a jazz-contemporary piece by a student composer. The Broad Stage at the SMC Performing Arts Center, Santa Monica Boulevard at 11th St. (Tickets are $10)

* Sunday, May 10 at 4 p.m.: An Afternoon of Russian Music by the SMC Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of James Martin. Concert features Babajanyan's Nocturne for Piano and Chamber Orchestra, with pianist Yulia Kozlova. Works by Glinka, Stravinsky and Tchaikovsky will also be performed. The Broad Stage at the SMC Performing Arts Center, Santa Monica Boulevard at 11th St. (Tickets are $10)

* Sunday, May 17 at 4 p.m.: The Ella Fitzgerald Tribute by the SMC Jazz Band, with Keith Fiddmont conducting. The band will be joined by the SMC Vocal Jazz Ensemble, as well as a surprise guest artist, for this special tribute concert. The Broad Stage at the SMC Performing Arts Center, Santa Monica Boulevard at 11th St. (Tickets are $10)

* Tuesday, May 19 at 11:15 a.m.: Chanticleer Master Class, featuring the renowned male chorus that was named 2008 Ensemble of the Year by Musical America. The class is sponsored by The Broad Stage Arts Insights Educational Outreach. The Broad Stage at the SMC Performing Arts Center, Santa Monica Boulevard at 11th St. (Free)

* Thursday, May 28 at 11:15 a.m.: SMC Percussion Ensemble Recital, under the direction of conductor Matthew Altmire. The Edye Second Space at the SMC Performing Arts Center, Santa Monica Boulevard at 11th St. (Free)

* Friday, May 29 at 7:30 p.m.: SMC Jazz Vocal Ensemble, with Cindy Bourquin conducting. The winner of Downbeat magazine's Outstanding College Performance Award in the Jazz Vocal Group category will perform solo and ensemble selections. The Broad Stage at the SMC Performing Arts Center, Santa Monica Boulevard at 11th St. (Tickets are $10)

* Sunday, May 31 at 4 p.m.: SMC Wind Ensemble, under the baton of Kevin McKeown. The annual "Pops" concert will include music from film, television and Broadway, as well as Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue and a tribute to The Beatles. The Broad Stage at the SMC Performing Arts Center, Santa Monica Boulevard at 11th St. (Tickets are $10)
