The Santa Monica College Music Department will present three concerts in June, with a highlight on vocal and percussion talent. The lineup ...
* Thursday, June 4 at 11:15 a.m.: SMC Percussion Ensemble, under the direction of Matthew Altmire. The concert will cover a variety of styles. The Edye Second Space at the SMC Performing Arts Center, Santa Monica Boulevard at 11th St. (Free)
* Friday, June 5 at 7:30 p.m.: SMC Chamber Choir, under the baton of Nike St. Clair. The ensemble will perform a multicultural program exploring exotic folk music from The Philippines, Japan, the rainforests of Brazil, Scotland, Europe and more. The Edye Second Space at the SMC Performing Arts Center, Santa Monica Boulevard at 11th St. (Tickets are $10)
* Saturday, June 6 at 2 p.m. & 7:30 p.m.: SMC Opera Theater in Performance. Under the direction of Gail Gordon, the SMC Opera Theater has been getting excellent reviews. The concert will feature scenes from La Traviata, L'Elisir d'Amore, La Cenerentola and more. The Edye Second Space at the SMC Performing Arts Center, Santa Monica Boulevard at 11th St. (Tickets are $10)
* Sunday, June 7 at 7:30 p.m.: SMC Concert Chorale, under the baton of Dr. James Smith. The chorale joins with the First United Methodist Church Chancel Choir and Los Angeles Concert Orchestra to present a program that includes Beethoven's Mass in C and the "Gloria" from Puccini's Missa de Gloria. Featured soloist will be SMC alumnus Rodel Rosell, a singer with Chicago Lyric Opera who will make his Metropolitan Opera debut in Spring 2010. Also featured will be Poulenc's Concerto for Organ, Strings and Tympani, with guest artist Christoph Bull. First United Methodist Church, 11th Street & Washington Avenue, Santa Monica. (Tickets are $20 general admission, $15 for students)
