Verdugo Power Academy Holds Graduation at Glendale Central Library |

The Verdugo Power Academy Class I will hold its graduation ceremony on Friday, Jan. 15 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Glendale Central Library, 222 E. Harvard St.There are 18 graduates in the program’s first class. They have completed 16 weeks (600 hours) of training. Glendale Community College, Verdugo Workforce Investment Board and Glendale Water and Power partnered for the Verdugo Power Academy training program that began Sept. 21. The Verdugo Power Academy addresses the projected shortage of utility workers to fill positions in the water and power utility industry. The academy training covers the necessary skill sets for electrical line mechanics, electric power principles and codes, safety, overhead line construction, transformers, SMART grids and more. The project is funded through a Verdugo Workforce Investment Board grant from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act that was awarded to GCC. The Verdugo Workforce Investment Board is comprised of industry and community leaders that develop workforce policies and oversee government funding for training and employment activities in the Glendale, Burbank and La Canada Flintridge area.
