Santa Monica College Associate Professor Martin Goldstein has been named Part-time Faculty Member of the Year by the statewide Faculty Association of California Community Colleges. Goldstein received his award on Feb. 28 in Sacramento at the 2010 FACCC Advocacy and Policy Conference to be held in Sacramento. Goldstein, of Culver City, has been teaching screenwriting and communications at SMC since 1999. He has served the SMC community as editor for the Faculty Association Bulletin and the SMC Faculty Association Hourly Advocate. He is currently the SMC Faculty Association's political director and an officer of the association's political action committee. He has also served the association as a member of the negotiating team. Goldstein serves the statewide college community as vice president of the FACCC political action committee and is a frequent contributor to the FACCCTs Journal. He also served on the executive board of the California Part-time Faculty Association (CPFA) as both director of communications and public relations and as legislative analyst. Martin has worked strongly and steadily for part-time rights and equity, and, as he recently stated, " I will continue to work for part-time regularization both here at SMC, and in Sacramento." Martin earned his B.A. degree from Columbia University and his master's in sociology from Harvard University. He is also an award-winning Writers Guild writer, who wrote the story for and co-produced the television film "Unnatural Causes," starring John Ritter and Alfre Woodard. # # # |
